Shweta (श्वेता)

Here is a classic off white cotton silk saree, Shweta. The artisans of Maheshwar have woven this. The design on the pallu tells a story itself. See the intricate yet beautiful stone sculpture painting on the left side, inspired by the Khajuraho. It shows the Gods of love, the very famous couple, Ratee-Madan. Both are armed with a floral bow and a quiver filled with both floral arrows to arouse desire. In the centre of design, we can observe a very gorgeous painting of a delicate and shapely woman’s sculpture. It has a very fine detailing of jewellery of North East region. In the extreme right side, there is a painting of Shalabhanjika. Shalabhanjika refers to a sculpture of a woman displaying stylized feminine features, standing near a tree & grasping a branch. The water colour feel to the painting and the embroidery was pre-decided for this saree. And the painters have given a justice to the thought while using black-blue shades to emphasise the off-white background.
